FULL DAY Van Tour - Knights Templar: Tomar & Almourol Castle

What to expect? 
This tour takes you to the heart of Portugal’s medieval history, following in the footsteps of the Knights Templar and their successor order, the Order of Christ.

We begin with a boat ride to Almourol Castle, a 12th-century fortress built by the Templars on an island in the Tagus River. It is one of Portugal’s most iconic castles, surrounded by nature and mystery.
Next, we head to Tomar, a city founded by the Templars that rose to prominence during the Age of Discovery under the command of Prince Henry the Navigator, Master of the Order of Christ.
We’ll visit the Church of Santa Maria do Olival, the former pantheon of the Templar Masters, filled with symbolic details and legends. Finally, we’ll explore the Convent of Christ, a monumental complex that includes the Templar Charola, the famous Manueline Window, the Main Cloister, the 16th-century aqueduct, and much more.
